Incontinence

Incontinence is the loss of bladder control that affects 13 million Americans and is twice as likely to affect women than men. The causes include damage to the supporting muscles and ligaments of the bladder resulting from childbirth or pregnancy or trauma, recurrent and acute infections. Child enuresis or bedwetting could also cause incontinence. Considering that there are different causes of incontinence, medicinal herb remedies must therefore depend on the cause. Some of the medicinal herbs that are used to treat incontinence are horsetail, plantain, shepherd's purse and St John's wort.

Medicinal Herb formulas to treat Incontinence.

If the incontinence resulted from childbirth and the stress it caused on the bladder, then taking shepherd's purse tea or tincture will help to tone the ligaments surrounding the bladder.

In the case where there is nerve irritation or damage, then one needs to St John's wort tea and in cases of symptoms indicating chronic cystitis, one needs to take plantain tea.

In order to restore damaged tissues of the bladder, take horsetail juice or tea for its high silica content.

Other natural remedies

I got the following natural remedy for stress incontinence for women that I got from WebMD is the following exercise:-

"because stress incontinence stems from weak pelvic muscles, an excellent defense is to strengthen the muscles around the urethral closure. You can do this through Kegel exercises: Clench the muscles you would use to stop the flow of urine. Hold the squeeze for 10 seconds, then relax. Do three or four sets every day. As these muscles grow stronger, so will your bladder control."
