Tamarind fruit is a fruit that can be used as a medicinal herb to treat constipation in children and as a gentle laxatives. Being a fruit means that it is one of the safest herbs to use. Tamarind scientific name is tamarindus indica. Phytochemical studies into tamarind have shown that the presence of tannins, saponins, sesquiterpenes, alkaloids and phlobatamins and other extracts active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, at temperatures of 4–30 °C (39–86 °F).

For constipation fresh or dried tamarind fruit can be made into a pleasant drink. Tamarind drink will open the bowels and relieve constipation.
In other countries tamarind is also to treat diarrhea, conjunctivitis, gall bladder disorders and many other ailments.
