Wild Cherry

Wild Cherry Prunus serotina  is  a deciduous tree which is native to North America. It also found in Central Europe where it is cultivated for its timber. The parts of the tree used for medicinal purposes is the inner bark. Cherokee women traditionally used the wild cherry bark to ease labor pain. Other native Americans used it to cure themselves from coughs and colds.

  • Wild Cherry bark is an effective remedy for chronic dry and iiritable coughs.
  • Wild Cherry Prunus serotina bark also combines well with coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) as cure for asthma and whooping cough.
  • The bark which is astringent also helps treat indigestion and symptoms of iritable bowel syndrom.
When using wild cherry we need to take note of the fact when used in excessive amounts wild cherry can be highly toxic.
