Oxygen Bath (Peroxide Bath)

An oxygen bath or Peroxide Bath is useful in treating the following conditions:-
  • Any condition requiring a powerful stimulation to the skin circulation
  • Insomnia or nervousness
  • Asthma
  • High blood pressure
  • Pemphigus
  • Diabetic gangrene
  • Dermatitis
How an oxygen bath or peroxide bath is carried out or performed:-
  • Fill the bath tub with approximately 30 gallons of water at 98 °F to 100 °F
  • Dissolve 1 tablespoon of potassium permanganate in 1 quart of boiling water an pour it into the bath.
  • Stir in 1½ tablespoon of sulfuric acid
  • Add 13-16 ounces of hydrogen peroxide; effervescence begins at once. If preferred, a more expensive but sometimes more readily available material may be used to produce oxygen bubbles in the water. Dissolve 300 grams of sodium perborate (NaBO3) by sprinkling uniformly into the bath water. Next sprinkle on the catalyser, 1 tablespoon of manganese borate (Mn3(BO3)2). The bubbles begin in 1-2 minutes and continue for 15-20 minutes.
  • Maintain the water temperature at 98 ° to 100 °. The patient should sit still in the bath. The sensation of mild prickling should be pleasant and agreeable.
  • After about 20 minutes the patient arises from the tub, gently blots the skin dry, dresses slowly and retires to bed to sleep.
