Indigestion

I remember before I became I became a full vegan I used to experience an uncomfortable feeling of fullness and acidity in the stomach. This is what is called indigestion and the causes range from over-eating, insufficient digestive acid and food sensitivities. Sometimes the acidity which happens on an empty stomach could be caused by an inflamed stomach lining. An inflamed stomach lining could be caused by stress, gallstones and some drugs such as aspirin and some antibiotics.

The medicinal herbal formula needed to cure indigestion is dependent on the root cause of the indigestion. Some healing herbs for indigestion are mallow, mugwort, ground ivy, meadowsweet, milk thistle horseradish, chamomile and plantains.

Medicinal Herb Remedies for Indigestion

For acidity that occurs in an empty stomach the herbs that help to cure it are mallow, chamomile, plantain and meadowsweet. These herbs can be taken as a tea for their anti-inflammatory effects.

In cases where you experience indigestion after taking food, then taking one or two teaspoons of horseradish before a meal is the best remedy. Another solution is to include horseradish herbs in the food that you take. Another solution is to take milk thistle and dandelion tincture 20 minutes before meals to assist and improve the digestion of the food that you will take later.

Dandelion coffee is also another remedy to improve digestion and enhance liver function.

Other natural remedies against Indigestion

One natural remedy is to take enough fluids throughout the day and only avoid taking fluids during and 30 minutes before and after taking food.

Doing some light exercises can also help in improving digestion by improving the muscles involved in digestion.

If none of the measures mentioned above do not work, please consult your GP or medical doctor to examine the cause of the indigestion.
