hiccoughs or Hiccups

hiccup or hiccough  is a sudden contraction of the diaphragm. This abrupt rush of air air into the lungs causes the vocal cords to snap shut to check inflow of air resulting into the "hic" sound. Alcohol, carbonated beverages, spicy foods and chemotherapy treatments have been shown to be some of the causes of hiccups.  In most cases a hiccup will stop on its own but if it is problematic there are some home remedies that are effective in stopping a hiccup.

Home and Natural Remedy For Hiccups
  • Take a dessert-spoon of cider vinegar. It takes your breath away and shocks the system into stopping hiccoughs.
  • Put 300ml (1/2 pint ) of cider vinegar and 300ml (1/2pint ) of spring water into a glass jar with two tablespoons of fresh rosemary. Put the lid on the jar and leave it in a warm place-and airing cupboard is ideal. Leave it for 10 days, giving it a shake every time you remember it.Strain the vinegar and bottle it and drink it anytime you have a hiccup or a cough as well.
