Rosa Canina

Rosa Canina also known as Dog Rose. This name came about because in the ancient days it was believed that this herb could cure the bites of mad dogs. The hips of rosa canina and its essential oil are the parts used for medicinal purposes. The hips of rosa canina are also used for making vinegar, syrups, preserves and wine. The dried  petals and essential oil are added to potpourri and beauty preparations such as hand lotion and masks.

How it is used as a Medicinal Plant or herb?

  • The hips of rosa canina are recommended by some herbalists to be taken internally in various preparations for colds, bronchial infections and gastric upsets.
  • The hips can also be applied externally for the treatment of  sores and skin irritations.
  • The hips can also be used nutritionally as they are very rich in vitamin C content.
