How To Prepare A Starch Bath

The starch bath is used to treat skin irritations just as a soda bath. The starch bath also soothes burning and itching sensation, diaper rash (diaper dermatitis) and also helps dry skin.

To prepare a starch bath you need to do the following:-
  • Stir approximately one cup of dry starch into a shallow tub of water at about 94°F to 98°F.
  • The patient should sit in the water for about 20 to 30 minutes, or longer if necessary
  • A cup may be used to dip the water onto all the skin surfaces that are affected.
  • Stir water to keep starch suspended.
  • Finish the bath by allowing the patient to dry in air by patting, fanning, or dripping
For diaper rash the water need not be discarded after the use but may be used repeatedly.
