Treat Insomnia Naturally

There are some individuals who can lay their heads on their pillows and be asleep in two minutes. Other normal people require nearly half an hour. The average is about eight minutes.
Natural Treatments

Apply a thick, very warm (not hot) formentation to the spine for 20 to 30 minutes, (the patient may lie on it if desired). Remove the fomentation, dry the skin, and gently return to bed. Sleep comes as a natural result of normal fatigue, and in most cases all that is necessary in the treatment of insomnia is to produce this normal fatigue by proper exercise.

A neutral bath at a temperature of 94°F to 97°F (34.4°C to 36.1°C) will aid in reducing congestion of the brain and spinal cord, a very frequent accompaniment of insomnia. A massage is often effective as are catnip and hops tea. Remember that very hot or very cold treatments are stimulating for many, and arouse rather than sedate. The same can be said of brisk exercise. But for some persons a cold mitten friction, starting with an already warm patient, is effective for inducing sleep. A long (20-30 minute) hot  bath at 104°F(40°C) will help some. All treatments for insomnia should include 10 to 20 slow, deep breaths of fresh air while the patient is comfortably relaxed in a nice warm bed.
